Andreea Zahiu is a Romanian artist who works mainly in wood.

She studied Politics and Anthropology in Romania and France but decided to become an artist while living in Oxford, UK, where she spent about twelve years.

Andreea fell in love with the process of wood sculpting/carving, a deeply meditative process which engenders introspection. She is using traditional skills and tools but also a more experimental approach and has the deepest respect for the wood, its age, story, intrinsic beauty.

What fascinates me the most is the alchemical quality of the creative process, the way the matter is transformed while transforming the artist, creating thus an ongoing conversation, a poetical dialog. I regard sculpting as being a form of ritualised practise, and the whole journey as an artist a way to bring myself home.

Andreea Zahiu lives and works currently in Brittany, France, with her family.
